Major: Sinology and Chinese Studies
Duration: 9 years in total – 4 years for the Bachelor’s program, followed by a direct-entry 5-year Ph.D. program
Teaching Model: Mixed classes with both Chinese and international students

• Year 3 & 4 (Undergraduate): Bilingual (Chinese and English)

II. About the Major
汉学与中国学Sinology and China Studies
Educational Objectives:
To deepen integrated research on traditional Chinese culture and modern society; to cultivate internationally oriented talents with a global perspective who can play key roles in cross-cultural communication, global governance, and cultural dissemination.
Career Prospects:
The program prepares students for diverse career paths in educational institutions, academic research, cultural exchange, publishing and editing, media and communications, policy consulting, and international organizations.

IV. Admissions Process
Selection Method
The admission process is conducted internally and consists of two stages:
1. Preliminary Selection
Applicants submit their materials voluntarily → Comprehensive evaluation by expert panel → Shortlist of candidates selected for the next stage.
2. Final Selection (Selection Camp)
Shortlisted candidates participate in the “Sinology Selection Camp” organized by the School of Sinology and China Studies → In-camp assessments → Final admission based on merit.
Candidates are evaluated based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including academic potential, leadership skills, cultural adaptability, and psychological resilience. The final composite score is calculated on a 100-point scale:
• Academic Potential: 30%
• Leadership: 30%
• Cultural Adaptability: 30%
• Psychological Resilience: 10%

V. Application Information
Eligibility
1. First-year international undergraduate students currently enrolled at BLCU;
2. International visiting students or foundation program students who have completed one full academic year at BLCU.

A. Basic Documents
1.Identification Document
Scanned copy of passport photo page.
2.Academic Records
Official transcript for the first undergraduate year or one academic year of visiting/foundation study, stamped by the relevant school/department;
3.Proof of English Proficiency
TOEFL or IELTS score report, or other verifiable evidence of English proficiency.
4.Academic Portfolio
Handwritten reading notes (3–5 pages) offering critical commentary on a classic Chinese text, in either Chinese or English;
One representative academic assignment completed during undergraduate studies (e.g., essay on history or cross-cultural analysis), in Chinese or English.
B. Supplementary Materials
•A 3-minute short video titled “The Wisdom of Chinese ‘Harmony and Unity’ and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations”, in English with Chinese subtitles; MP4 or WAV format, clear video quality.
•Two letters of recommendation from associate professors or above.
C. Optional Materials (Recommended)
1.Proof of International Experience:
e.g., Model United Nations (MUN) participation, overseas study programs, awards in multilingual competitions.
2.Proof of Special Talents:
e.g., certificates related to intangible cultural heritage, statistics from academic or cultural media platforms (e.g., Zhihu column, Bilibili channel).
If materials are in a language other than Chinese or English, a certified translation in Chinese or English must be provided.
